'PSB-AIT DBA is the first doctoral programme for working executives in India. My reason for joining the programme was to explore Marketing and Brand Management related matters in-depth, as also to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on these topics through research on some unique situations that I have experienced during the course of my professional career. The faculty that delivers this programme is world-class and the programme modules are appropriate to guide and prepare a working manager to conduct 'research'. I am quite certain that this programme will encourage knowledge building and develop into one of the finest doctoral programmes of its kind in the Country. The Pearl Business School infrastructure and faculty are truly world-class and I feel privileged to be part of the first DBA class'

FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the differences between PhD and DBA programmes?
The PhD programme focuses on research work embedded in theories from social sciences and humanities, and prepares students for teaching and research-related jobs. DBA is a professional doctorate program, where the research is rooted in the context of professional management practice. The two programs have different segmentation - PhD is open to teachers
or academically-oriented persons and DBA is open to experienced managers. Both programs are of equal value and quality aiming at different target groups. Both involve the development of substantial standard research work.

2. How is DBA programme structured? When do I work on dissertation topic?
You have to first successfully complete course work and must obtain a minimum of 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Next, you have to work on a Special Study under the supervision of a faculty advisor. Generally course work and Special Study should be finished within three semesters. There are two semesters in a year: January-July and August-December. After this, a student will proceed to Advancement to Candidacy by defending dissertation proposal and clearing comprehensive examination. Comprehensive Examination is conducted to ensure a student's thoroughness in his/her DBA courses and area of dissertation. Advancement to Candidacy implies that the study is ready for working on his/her dissertation.

3. Is AIT-PSB DBA programme recognized internationally?
Yes. AIT is an international university recognized by United Nation (UN) and UN countries. AIT Doctoral Alumni work in universities in India including IIMs, IITs, and organizations like ADB and private and public sector.

4. Can I write 'Dr' before my name after I complete DBA programme?
Yes, DBA and PhD are equivalent degrees and one can write 'Dr.' before his/her name.

5. What days in the week will courses be offered?
Courses will be offered on alternate Saturdays and Sundays in a month.

6. If the courses are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, normally, how many hours of classes will be held each day?

There will be 7 hours classes each day.

7. Do you allow if the participant is absent for the courses sometimes due to his/her mission outside India?
No. However, the student must discuss with the teacher and take his/her permission. Teacher may agree for an alternative arrangement of class sessions. If this does not happen, student will have to take classes with the new batch of students in the following year.

8. Can you clarify about "the courses will be offered in seminar mode or in modular form"?
Seminar mode is a method of participative learning that the students will not only listen to the lecture in class, but they need to study before class and share their ideas and thoughts to others; and make presentations on topics assigned by the instructors. Modular form is a way to schedule classes. Normally, courses are scheduled all together on weekly basis throughout the semester. So, students have to study 3-4 courses for the entire semester period. For modular form, students will study and complete only one/two courses at a time and then continue with other courses until they complete all the courses.

9. How do you evaluate the participants for the courses? Are there examinations for the courses? What's type of the examinations?
It depends on each course and each faculty member. However, AIT and PSB encourages all faculty members to use multiple criteria for grading to accommodate students from different background and promote participative learning approach both in class and outside. Also, comprehensive cases will be used in teaching so that students could integrate their learning from the courses. Generally, faculty members may require students to prepare "Reflection" paper in their courses.

10. Regarding the entry requirements, do you request a minimum GPA from the Master study of the applicant?
The candidate's work experience will help to build up the candidate's competency and skills in management. However, the DBA candidates need to get the minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to graduate and get DBA degree.

11. Do you have full or partial scholarship?
Not right now.

12. Do you use on-line learning methodology in DBA?
We supplement and complement in-class learning by on-line interaction as a part of correspondence between students and faculty members. But on-line interaction is not the main methodology. We use "Moodle" as on-line Course Management System.

13. Do you have on line study program for DBA students?
No; not at this time.

14. Who will teach in DBA programme?
DBA in India is a joint programme of AIT and PSB. DBA faculty will mostly include faculty members from PSB and AIT. We will also invite faculty from IIMs and other reputed institutions/Universities in India and abroad. PSB faculty is also involved in teaching in AIT's DBA programmes in Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.
