First steps to New Ventures

All they were told on Monday was they had to make and sell sandwiches in competition with two other groups. Came Wednesday 8 Oct 08 and we saw a flurry of activity on the campus, with three sandwich brands making a big splash at PSB. Orion, Spartans and Rock On were the three MBA1 companies doing a professional job of making and selling sandwiches. They had booked business both inside and outside the campus, had organised the operations and also worked out the prices.

The faculty were pleasantly surprised to see a high level of energy, enthusiasm and involvement on the part of all the students. No prizes for guessing that the backbenchers were really in the forefront here!! A few faculty tried to play the hardnosed customer and get some discounts. As expected the students turned out smarter: when they gave discounts they cut out the frills as well.

Rock On and Spartans went out of the campus and sold sandwiches to the neighbouring offices and institutions. They got a rousing reception in all the places and the faculty in the American Institute of Indian Studies even treated the students to lunch.

The Experiential Exercise was a part of the Module 130 on Managing Resources. Prof Sanjay Kumar, Module leader teaches Managing Operations, while Prof Ashutosh P Bhupatkar and Ms Nisha Kohli conduct sessions on Human Capital and Planning and Control systems respectively.
